Oceanic were founded in 1989 by a pair of friends who both enjoyed diving and found a place in the underwater market of scuba diving equipment. They began with a very small range of products in a shed in the back yard of one of their familys home in Sorrento, Victoria. This soon grew beyond the small sheds size and they had to relocate to a small warehouse in the local industrial area. In 2007 they grew again, and in 2011, a second warehouse was opened due to the booming business.

Oceanic wholesale, manufacture and distribute Australia wide now, dealing in Scuba Diving, Spear fishing, Snorkeling and other water sports activities. A few of the Oceanic brands now consist of Rob Allen, Princeton Tec, Ocean Pro, Ocean Hunter and Hollis. For this reason Oceanic changed their name in 2012 to Australian Underwater Products, due to the expansion of brands within the business.

Rob Allen is one of the Spear fishing brands that AUP distribute, they were formed in South Africa in 1988 by Rob Allen himself.
